Aschenbach Wins GTS Class at Pirelli World Challenge Season Opener in St. Petersburg

Blackdog Speed Shop drivers Lawson Aschenbach and Tony Gaples finished 1st and 9th, respectively, in the Pirelli World Challenge season opener at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

After inclement weather caused a cancellation of race one during the double header weekend, drivers were left to battle it out in what became the first race of the season on Sunday.

Aschenbach slotted into 2nd place on the start and continued to pressure the leader throughout the race. After using a late race pass in traffic that earned him the Clean Pass of The Race award, he was able to bring the #1 Chevrolet Camaro home in first place. The finish gave Lawson, a three-time series champion, his 15th race win in the Pirelli World Challenge Series.

“What a great way to start…

The two most powerful and fastest mid-engine sports models from Porsche are ready and raring to go: with uprated engines and excellent PASM chassis the Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS set new benchmarks for sportiness in their segment. The independent front and a modified rear end, blackened bi-xenon headlights – with the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) as standard – and exterior lettering in silky black gloss are subtle yet unmistakable features of the new top models. Porsche 911 Race Drivers Capture Both GT Classes in Classic Sebring Win

Factory drivers Patrick Long (USA), Michael Christensen (Denmark) and Joerg Bergmeister (Germany) win the 62nd Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring GT Le Mans (GTLM) class in the No. 912 Porsche North America Porsche 911 RSR.

The victory gives the new Porsche works program wins in both of North America’s premier two sports car racing events; the Rolex 24 At Daytona in January and today’s 12 Hours of Sebring. The No. 912 held off a field of factory efforts from the class pole position. However, the race came down to a final 20-minute sprint after a late race caution flag packed the field for a last push to the checkered flag in the second event of the Tudor United SportsCar Championship season. Bergmeister, behind the wheel for the final stint,…
